Hello Wealth Tablers!

Have you ever bought something on impulse and justified it later with phrases like “It was on sale” or “I’ve worked hard—I deserve it”? You’re not alone.

In our latest episode of The Wealth Table, Kimberly and I (Kathryn) unpack the subtle but powerful role that emotion plays in financial decisions. Most of us think we’re being rational with money, but the truth is this:

We decide emotionally, and then we rationalize logically.

This pattern can wreak havoc on your financial well-being—especially when we’re unaware it’s happening. The shoes, the car, the vacation, the house upgrade... all of them are often tied to an emotional trigger: stress, comparison, loneliness, or even the desire to feel worthy or successful.

So, how do you shift this pattern? Some suggestions include:

1. Slow Down the Moment of Decision

Impulsive decisions feed off urgency. One of the most powerful tools you can use is a pause. Take 24 hours before making a purchase over a certain amount. This simple delay creates space for reflection—where emotion settles and clarity rises.

2. Ask Better Questions

Instead of asking, “Can I afford this?” try asking:

  • “What emotion is driving this purchase?”

  • “Will this still feel like a wise decision next month?”

  • “Does this align with my long-term vision of wealth?”

These questions shift your brain from reactive mode into reflective mode.

3. Replace Emotional Spending with Emotional Nourishment

If you're buying to feel better—what could meet that emotional need in a deeper way?
Try:

  • Journaling about what you’re feeling

  • Taking a walk or meditating

  • Calling a friend or coach

  • Reviewing your financial goals or vision board

This redirects the emotional impulse into empowered action.

4. Anchor Decisions to Your Wealth Identity

Who are you becoming with every financial choice? When you identify as someone who is intentional, sovereign, and aligned, your decisions begin to reflect that.

At The Wealth Table, we believe that money is more than math—it’s a mirror. It shows us our patterns, our priorities, and yes, our pain. But it also offers us a path forward, rooted in awareness, compassion, and truth.

Let’s make this month about conscious financial creation. Let your purchases reflect not just your desires—but your deeper values.

With wisdom and wealth,

Kathryn and Kimberly, Hosts of The Wealth Table
